  • It would be easier to record than upload. Since upload requires at least a decode steps. Given the fleeting nature of existence how does one confirm the decoding? This also requires we create a simulated brain, which seems more difficult and resource intensive than forming a new biological brain remotely connected to your nervous system inputs.

Recording all inputs in real time and play them back across a blank nervous system will create an active copy. The inputs can be saved so they can be played back later in case of clone failure. As long as the inputs are record until the moment of death, the copy will be you minus the death so you wouldn’t be aware you’re a copy. Attach it to fresh body and off you go.

Failure mode would take your literal lifetime to reform your consciousness but what’s a couple decades to an immortal.

We already have the program to create new brains. It’s in our DNA. A true senior developer knows better than to try and replicate black box code that’s been executing fine. We don’t even understand consciousness enough to pretend we’re going to add new features so why waste the effort creating a parallel system of a black box.

Scheduled reboots of a black box system is common practice. Why pretend we’re capable of skipping steps.

  • “Media attention” doesn’t appear on your quote nor the entitreity of that Wikipedia article.

The other two are merely your personal interpretation of how you split the phrase “professed refusal”

Professed can as easily be satisfied by going on a piracy forum and declaring your allegiance to the movement.

Refusal is what piracy is. The act of ignoring copyright law, is the refusal.

“I do not agree with copyright law and will not be restricted by it” – This statement satisfies “professed refusal”

I do not have to petition my senator.

I don’t have to stand on a street corner with a sign.

I will take it further and claim that you or anyone else adding arbitrary rules to how one must practice civil disobedience is antithetical to civil disobedience.

  • There are laws around how layoffs have to be communicated. Secret layoffs at large companies aren’t a thing.

NDA’s occur at the start of employment. When someone is laid off, there is typically a severance that includes a separation agreement, these may have an NDA clause.

The rest of this I agree with. This is being pushed by the shareholders. The scare tactic is an added bonus.

    Unionize.

  • Plex with Apple TVs. This requires a lot of transcoding but I have dedicated hardware.

I’ve tried many alternatives over many years but they all eventually annoy me. I’ve been doing this long enough to know eventually something better than Plex will come along but that day has yet to come.

I don’t have any streaming services. They are all terrible and I prefer to put that money towards more hardware, mostly hard drives since my library is of the data hoarding style, ever increasing.

My setup is entirely automated via various watch lists.

IMDb watch lists and Plex watchlists as well as various lists setup to retrieve based on cast / director involvement that feed into Radarr and Sonarr allow titles to be added from my phone.

The added benefit of a my automation setup is that I can lose a hard drive and the system will self heal.

  • There is no one way that works for everyone.

You have to release the emotion.

Try taking a deep breath exhale the emotion. Try with or without a mantra such as “it doesn’t matter” or “this doesn’t define me”

Try the above when you are already in a relaxed mental state where your allow your breathe to return you to the relaxed mental state.

This is basically meditative / mindfulness.

Allow yourself to feel the emotion but while controlling when you allow the feeling to enter you mind which also requires allowing yourself to releasing it.

When you find something that works through practice, even if it helps in the slightest of way, repeat the process whenever the intrusive thought occurs.

I suggest deep breathes because they are easy to sneak into any situation. But other options might include making a fist and releasing it, basically anything where you can control the tension.
