I have an Epson ET-2851 and I’m pretty happy with it. The Eco-tank ink seems to last pretty long and is easy to top up. It runs without any trouble under Linux. For my modest requirements it’s fine.

Windows is closed source and controlled by Microsoft. There is no way to verify what it actually does on your PC and as long as it’s installed, your computer is not really yours.

Linux is open source and closely scrutinized for security violations or any sort of data collection shitfuckery. That’s no guarantee, of course, but you have a far better chance of your computer not acting as a surveillance mechanism.

Having said that, Linux does take some technical knowledge, so be prepared to put on some work before making the switch.

I have a Linux PC with Jellyfin hooked up to the TV but i find it awkward to use with a keyboard and trackpad while lying on the couch. It would be great to have a remote like the Chromecast one but I’m not sure if anything like that is available that would work with JF.

Yeah but they’re not there yet in terms of mass deployment and that’s still going to take some more technical breakthroughs. They’ll get there eventually but there might be some new discovery any day that would greatly speed up the process.
