The guy above you made a stupid remark. Then you come along and say to yourself “I bet I can out-asshole this guy, let me write something equally asinine and insulting, that will raise the level of this discussion” The same lame brained tit-for-tat bullshit that destroys our political debate.

Might be an unpopular take but… maybe being good at high school math tests is not really such an important gift in the real world.
The big problem is that one usually leads to the other. Saying politically unpopular things in a way those governments perceive as threatening often leads to more than just administrative fines.
Sure but that doesn’t answer the question. Maybe if there were a broad call from their other trading partners to take a moral stance but China is well known for not taking political stances they don’t directly benefit from. Again scoring some easy political points against the US is great but I don’t see them making any serious move here unless it somehow serves their interests (which is a perfectly rational stance to take, it’s not a criticism.)
You have any source on this? It’s one thing for the CCP to use this situation to make the US look bad but do they actually have any incentive to materially support Palestine? Seems unlikely they’d hurt their own trade over this.

Haven’t seen it myself but because Lemmy has a relatively small user base it’s fairly easy to just flood it with content and have a significant portion show up on the front page. If you’re seeing a sudden influx of a specific type of meme, my guess is that’s just someone sending a lot of the same kind of content ar once.
I have ports open (to receive backups from my other servers) but only to connections from specific ip addresses and only port 22 using a pub key (no password) I’d be hesitant to open port 80 to the public though.
Then again I’ve run a small public web server for well over a decade and never had any issues with hackers.

The US has a ton of problems, I’m not saying it’s a great country to live in necessarily (I wouldn’t move there given the choice). But it’s not a dictatorship where laws are optional for the government.
Maybe freedom doesn’t mean anything to you when you’re not the one being reeducated though.

Counter point. I had a customer call me back in the day when I was working tech support. Complained that his new computer wasn’t working. Plugged in, light goes on but the screen just stays blank. Turns out he only bought a monitor. Thought the guys at the store were trying to scam him into “buying two boxes” that he didn’t need. When I tried to explain he got mad saying I must be in on the scam.
Bonus points: when the call first connected his question was "why is my email not working?” Took a while to work that back to the actual issue.

I don’t see a ton of human rights protesters in Israel either. Yeah some exist but by far most Israeli voters seem to support the “Palestinians are sub humans” rhetoric at the voting booth.
You might not give a shit but the American elections are going to have a huge impact no matter where you live. It’s world news. And yeah there’s a lot of nonsense news about the US elections but there’s plenty of nonsense news elsewhere too. Why not start a lemmy community specifically about non-US news if you feel that’s lacking?
