  • I’m not saying that either I’m saying Americans are lazy and have no sense of work ethic and immigrants regardless of what they’re paid (not that I want them to be paid anything but the fair wage anyone else should be entitled to) are a required part of our work force and I’m grateful for the work they do. We wouldn’t have roads or building, or food. Some get paid well, some get paid shit. Im not a farmer so I can’t tell you if they chose to let the whole seasons crop go to waste over paying others more to pick said crops, or if they just didn’t have anyone that wanted to do actual work. From my narrow view, I have the tendency to think that no one wanted to work.

Honestly, I think I took your comment to mean something it didn’t. I’m sorry for any misunderstanding.

  • This.

You get some gear. It’s nice, but heavy…then you realize there’s so much lighter stuff out there.

$100/lbs later your congratulating yourself that your base weight is 15lbs until you add food and water, and you realize that your pack still is too heavy. You finally shave off another 2 lbs by buying all new luxury items at $30-$50 a pop, and getting a lighter stove.

Then winter comes, and that 4 season, dyneema tent looks mighty appealing. Not to mention you need a better rated sleeping bag (cause that hammock ain’t gonna cut it) and a pad, a better puffy and fleece, crampons, maybe an ice pick, and another stove that works in the cold…

Edit. Damn it, I forgot I need new shoes…even if I wanted to brave it using my summer pair, those trail running shoes are destroyed over the course of 1 season.

  • I would maybe check out Hiking project if your in North America. It looks really similar to all trails, except you have to download particular areas. The drawback is that the user input is almost nonexistent on smaller, local trails. More popular trails have some good info though. This definitely seems like it has promise.

Then theres Farout (formerly guthook) - I’ve heard this app mentioned alot as the preferred way to navigate trails like the AP or CDT. It costs money, and it’s not cheap, but you can download the app and continue as a guest and check put some of the free maps they provide.
