That always makes me think of this great moment from “Men In Black.”

I can understand why the government would want to do away with the colonial language. It’s a reminder of a dark time. However, the decision of what the official language(s) should be can lead to some tricky politics. If one local language is elevated, it gives an advantage to those who grew up speaking it. This is especially hard for minority languages from indigenous peoples.
An example of this is in Botswana, where I’m currently living. The Tswana people came up from South Africa and displaced indigenous populations like the San and Herero. After independence in 1966 from being a British protectorate, they made English the official language and Setswana the national language. English is used in education and government, but everyone is also expected to learn Setswana to function in society. For those who didn’t grow up speaking Setswana or who don’t learn it, it’s harder or impossible to get good healthcare or a good job.
Language politics can get really messy when there are lots of local languages. I worry about what might happen as a result of this decision.
Tell that to the US government. There’s a reason the United States isn’t part of the ICC.
Fedora 39, and it runs beautifully on my gaming laptop. I’m pondering trying out the COSMIC DE for kicks, but I’m also liking GNOME 45.
I’m deeply sorry for your loss. I am a hospital chaplain, so I have been with families as their loved ones have died in settings like this. If you want to talk to someone, I’m here for you.
Thank God I’m not the only one who does this. I want to eat all the yolk, thank you very much. The stuff left on the plate is a waste.
Ah, I see you are also a person of culture.
I AM DELIGHTED TO SEE ANOTHER FELLOW HUMAN HERE. ALL OF THESE OTHER COMMENTS ARE HARMING MY AUDIO SENSORS EARS.
I hope it expands the endgame content, since that’s the only thing I think Grim Dawn is lacking. It’s the only ARPG where I’ve gotten a character to lvl 100. Overall, a dynamite game.
I’m also surprised it’s Indian-Americans talking about this and not Republicans. There’s been a caste system in the US since its inception based on race and income.
RED WARRIOR IS NOW IT
GREEN VALKYRIE NEEDS FOOD BADLY
Pretty sure the official rules have killed off the idea of the peasant rail gun. Now a barb raging before impact to halve falling damage, or doing the same thing with a Moon druid in 5e, that’s just exploiting the rules.
It really does get pretty trippy. I’ve been working through the secrets to unlock all the other characters. Some of them are pretty funny, others have curious quirks.
Thank you! I was thinking the same thing. I hate it when news sources perpetuate racist disinformation.
Oh. Well then, I stand corrected.
Umm, excuse me, but I believe you’re missing a “start” and/or “select.” pushes glasses up nose
There’s only one thing I would alter in your statement. You said:
…and to focus on shareholder profits over making a good product.
I would say, "and to focus on shareholder profits over making a good product anything else, including life itself.
It’s more profitable for a health insurance company to deny someone’s claim than to pay for their healthcare in the US. The insurance company won’t care if that ultimately leads to the person’s death - they have to answer to their shareholders.
It’s more profitable for Nestlé or Google to siphon water from countries in the global South than it is to have sustainable practices that don’t exacerbate climate change. So what if that means that millions of people will die in the years to come? That’s their problem for being poor.
We need to bring about the kind of change that has politicians recognize that there is more to human life than a dollar amount, and that poverty is not a moral failing on the part of the individual. But until that happens, poverty is akin to a death sentence.
This is like saying, “people need air to breathe.” The fact this is a revelation to gaming studios is deeply concerning.
I played some when it was in early access, and I’ve been absolutely loving BG3 now that it’s officially released. I haven’t felt like this about a game in a long time, and it’s probably because Larian studios treated this like Divinity Original Sin - a complete game with loving care. As I saw in another review, they didn’t make a D&D game, they just made D&D.
Any film made by Christopher Guest and Wes Anderson. Every one of them are gems.
Celeste is a wonderfully brutal game. I love the characters and the whole idea behind, “conquer a hard thing just to say I did it.” To be fair, that is what it feels like when climbing mountains or other large rock structures
Plants vs Zombies is the best tower defense game out there. Y’all can fight me on that.
