  • Generally the people you’re telling your salary are people in the same location as you or at least the same state.

Telling the yearly salary makes the most sense there since it should be similar weekly/monthly amounts. And even if they aren’t in the same place and it doesn’t translate based on tax differences, telling someone the monthly or weekly payment would make no sense.

  • It’s a fair question to ask. Any time civil liberties are curtailed, there should be questioning. There should be coverage.

But in a case of a smaller country being invaded by a world power, their options might just be use every tool available or accept losing their sovereignty because a more powerful nation wants their land. And we also need to acknowledge that and say it out loud. If you don’t think the war and loss of civil rights is worth protecting their sovereignty and the right to be a country, admit that up front. That it sucks, but that you think the benefits outweigh the costs.

My one question would be, was there a vote to fight a defensive war when Ukraine was invaded? Is that something invaded countries even do? I’m honestly asking the question. Because if there was a fair and free vote, and the majority voted to defend their land, then it seems like they’re fine with it.

  • I think it still needs to grow and get more stable. I find any browsing all that there isn’t enough there for me to use it in the same way I used reddit.

For the first month or so, I would say it was about 40% of my SNS usage, now it’s probably about 20-30%. Hopefully as more and more people use it, we get more users and more stable instances.

  • My guess right now is that it won’t be as big as Reddit. I think we’re in an environment where the network effect is so strong that it is extremely difficult for big players to fail. The type of failure and migration we saw from Digg to Reddit doesn’t seem possible now.

But it might be big enough to be a good replacement for more hardcore users. I personally am using both and Lemmy is maybe 40% of my usage and growing.
