That is true but at the same time, a line has to be drawn somewhere. If we just let Russia win because they have nukes, there is nothing to stop them from invading and absorbing other neighbors. We can’t let the threat of nukes keep us from doing anything and allowing for Russia and China to just invade anywhere they want.

I think it was a 1998-ish Pontiac Grand Prix. I dated two different women that drove that car and so I had to ride around in them and sometimes drive them. Both were just a train wreck of problems. They shook violently sitting at a red light, the brakes always seemed to be failing, and everything that could break was falling off the cars. It’s weird that two women I dated owned the same car but more so that they both had the same problems.

I run AD at home but it’s because my job is in enterprise software engineering and so running these programs in my home lab requires AD integrations. It’s also needed for HyperV and SCVMM along with things like SQL server auth and GMSA which I can’t get out of testing. Ironically most of my work is in open source/Linux but Windows servers are all over the Enterprise so I don’t have a choice but to run this stuff. No real users on it and just used for the lab.

Wish I had an answer. Had an older relative that was like this. Others say he was always like that and he died miserable. Never did figure out what drove him to be that way and many people tried and failed to befriend him and get to know him. No one succeeded including his neighbor who was the nicest person I ever met.

Yeah I can’t imagine there is any shortage in the US with skill not to mention that AZ is a home to Intel manufacturing so there are trained people. My guess is that they want skilled people to work for far less than they are worth. Pay the right price and there won’t be a shortage.

Thanks so much I had not been tracking this case but it pissed me off to no end when I heard that Vizio was refusing to uphold the GPL. They are more than happy to greatly benefit from the labors of open source development but the second they have to do the smallest step in support of the GPL, they fight it. I doubt there is anything overly interesting that they could release. My mind is assuming they don’t want anyone to see the actual level of their data gathering.

This is a great recommendation as sometimes I get motivated to do new stuff but can’t figure out what to do. There are the basics like learn a new language or musical instrument but for something a bit different it makes sense to hit up a large base of examples for ideas. A couple of years ago I took a first responder certification course so I could volunteer with the local search and rescue. That was incredibly fun. I didn’t know that was a thing until I spent like three days searching for new examples of things to learn.

Are you sure they are taking it seriously? I’ve watched a bunch of Ancient Aliens and it was fun entertainment so long as it is recognized as just entertainment. The main voice in the show makes me fall asleep so I’ve technically had most episodes play across my screen. Me and coworkers make comments regularly that “it’s aliens man” as the reason for things. None of us see it as more than humor and maybe that’s the case with your people.

The UN has consistently voted against Russia on this. There are a handful of authoritarian that back Russia but globally support for Ukraine is unparalleled.

I used OpenVPN for years and deployed it across numerous places I worked and at home, amazing project. I feel a bit guilty for switching to wireguard a couple years back but it really is amazingly fast.

I’m not sure that people want to legislate against AI as much as they want to find a way to legislate for the fair outcomes associated with AI productivity. The challenge is that is harder to do. In the USA we can’t get out of our own way to properly tax corporations, nevermind have a more complex solution like reduce worker hours, increase PTO based upon improved societal output. In the absence of a complex but comprehensive solution (which I don’t think we have the capability to pull off) people are desperate and saying things like “let’s hold back on AI will we can put together this mythical great plan”. We’re never going to get the great plan though. Hopefully I’m just cynical but I don’t see a path (at least for the US as I can’t speak for the rest of the world) that doesn’t continue towards dystopia.
