  • I personally love torrents, their decentralized nature will make them last forever.

I would love to see a client that shows you a full catalog of movies and shows and downloads right from the client. If I choose a movie it will just start downloading it right there and can let me watch it in a few minutes. Basically similar to popcorn time but actually maintained, and also supports a vpn.

My family still likes to use streaming services because they choose something off of Netflix and watch. It would be nice to have the same experience with torrents.

My comment was obviously devoid of any nuance, I am on programmer humor after all. I actually do use typescript, but I think fixing issues in application code that isn’t used by other code is a waste of time. I also think there are lots of advantages of a very dynamic language, like usable REPLs and much easier debugging. We can take these advantages way further by embracing the dynamic nature of javascript, like how lisps do it for example. But instead, everyone is happy going down the route of turning it into another c# (nothing against c# but we don’t need all languages to be c# and java).

  • Did you read the article? The legislation steadily increases the legal age limit so that kids don’t get hooked on tobacco in the first place. No one will have to “quit cold turkey”.

One of the biggest issues with the war on drugs is that it criminalizes the use of certain drugs. This doesn’t do that.

As for your claim about a black market and a mafia:

we have already taken steps to reduce smoking rates. This includes providing 1 million smokers in England with free vape kits via our world-first ‘swap to stop’ scheme

They’re still providing people with tobacco, just a less-deadly kind. Comparing that to the war on drugs is ridiculous. The point of the war on drugs isn’t to get people to quit using dangerous drugs recreationally, every reasonable person wants that. The point of it is to control minorities and poor people. That’s absolutely not what’s happening here.

None of this is to defend Sunak btw, he’s a broken clock that happens to be right in this instance.

  • Depending on where you live, it might be nice to see a lot more of what’s around you on a bike. It’s similar to OP’s idea of getting lost in the flow of a competitive sport. You get lost looking at all the places that pass you by. You can take random routes each time and learn the city around you pretty well. It doesn’t hurt to have your headphones in and listen to an audiobook while you’re doing this either.

I never really got into running because it’s so much slower than biking. You will see a fraction of what you see on a bike, so I think it probably gets boring quicker. Plus it puts more strain on your joints.
