The fortune 50 I worked for could literally stop doing all business and maintain their current spend for a century and still be solvent.

To further that…the 1% have private armies and well stocked bunkers to ride out any social uprising. That’s the really scary stuff.

There’s a bunch of other studies out there that back that number…It’s always generally 20% can’t read at all…50% can’t do critical analysis of text.
It’s really ugly…Those people all vote, and I think it helps explain how the most vile ridiculous demons the R’s put out there get 30%+ of the vote. It’s extremely hard to refute lies when the person consuming and believing the lie can’t read.

I think you’d have to drink 3+ a day before you’re at unsafe levels if you’re 150lbs (and…well…if we are shitting on eating habits, 150 is a very light American).

I strongly disagree with that. I think showing downvotes makes your votes more relevant. If something has 10k up votes and 10k down votes, it’s probably a decent post. If it just shows 10k up votes, or 0 net total, the score doesn’t reflect the nature of the post.
At the individual level, it lets you know if someone is just trolling. That’s also a plus as far as reputation goes (not sure how people are scored here, or if they are).
