I’ve seen a bunch that are really good, but I’ll add a couple:

BLT. Simple and so so good.

Toastie, or grilled cheese. Couple of ways to punch the is up. Use a thick cut crusty bread. Include some Branson Pickle. I learned about this in London, and it’s amazing. My mom used to make a grilled cheese with tomato and bacon. Either way, or just a plain old grilled cheese is pretty good.

  • I use nginx & docker-proxy. Because the model I copied used that setup. Having messed with it a bit, I’m understanding it more and more. Before that, the last time I messed with a web server (Apache), nginx wasn’t around. Lately, I’ve seen a similar docker setup to mine that doesn’t use docker-proxy. If I find time, I’ll probably play with that some on my dev rig.

  • I have two that I always say:

Take care of your teeth. They’re the only set you get. Also they don’t tell you this when you’re young, but all dental care is either preventative or reactionary. They can’t actually “fix” problems. If you have a cavity, that starts you down a road that ends with a crown or implant. Use any dental insurance you have religiously, pay for a good toothbrush (Oral-B or SoniCare), learn to floss properly and do it all every single day.

Second, save now as much as you are able. If you can adhere to it, look into the 50-30-20 rule. One thing it took me too long to learn is, given an otherwise living income, you won’t miss money you don’t see. When savings is automatically deposited from your paycheck, it’s out of sight and mind.

Lastly, just be yourself, and be a good person to those around you.

This is what I came here for. Like you said, the rule is about how you treat others, and intentionally doesn’t account for how others treat you. As was already said, lots of religions have similar rules. They also have parallels to “lead by example,” “turn the other cheek,” “vengeance is mine, sayeth the Lord,” “judge not lest ye be judged.” All of these are guidelines for community cooperation and fellowship. There will always be people who go against them, but if the overall community adheres to them it’s generally in a better position to be stable and succeed.

  • Usually trousers (really like the Eddie Bauer Ranier pants and shorts), golf shirt, grip6 belt, hiking boots and good socks. Bose QC35s if I’m in the data center. One customer makes me wear a safety vest. If I’m working weekends, in some data centers it’s warm enough for shorts (I’m not doing hardware installs).

If I’m working at home, whatever I slept in plus a shirt.

  • I’m sure there’s something, and I try to remind myself when talking to the kids that they’re figuring out the world around them all the time just like i did when I was their age. It’s really hard getting them to look outside of YT and TikTok for information. Awhile back, the younger one got into the Atlantis mythology and started talking about it a lot. Theories of Atlantean origin are pretty common in white supremacist circles, so that was kind of stressful!
