zsh is short for “z shell.” A shell is a way to interact with a system via text - a command line interface. There are many including sh (shell), bash (Bourne again shell), fish (no idea what it stands for if anything) and others. I pronounce “zsh” as “zee shell.”

ssh is short for “secure shell,” a way to access systems remotely that replaced unencrypted remote access methods (hence “secure”). I pronounce this as “ess ess aitch.” The last symbol you used looks like a calculus symbol to me.

sudo, depending on whom you ask, could stand for one of a few things; it was preceded by a command called “su” which stood for “super user” or “switch user” because it allowed you to imitate a user other than your own (super user being a user who has few or no permissions restrictions on a system). “sudo” is generally considered to be short for “su do” (whatever you consider “su” to mean) (ie, switch user and do or become super user and do)… I pronounce this one as “pseudo” but I didn’t know what it meant when I first learned it. If I had, it’s not impossible that I would pronounce it differently.

Caveat: I’m an experienced Linux user, but not an expert. All of the above is generally accurate but I suspect there are many lemmy users who would contest the details.

Fair enough, I hadn’t considered homelessness by choice.

I know homeless people can and sometimes do have jobs, but assumed their income would be insufficient to require interacting with the IRS. Thank you for expanding my perception.

File taxes? I admit I’m fairly ignorant of the plights of any unhoused person … And any complex tax situation, TBH … but it seems like most of them would be under the income threshold that would require filing of taxes.

Anyone who values you less because of your appearance is not worth your consideration.

This does discount physical and medical consequences, which are absolutely worth noting, but whether others notice your missing tooth should not be an issue.

It makes sense and is understandable that you would feel sensitive about it, including wanting the tooth back, but its absence does not reflect upon you as a person and ideally you don’t feel bad about it.

This isn’t meant to dismiss trauma, but help with any insecurity. Personally, I’d rather hear what you have to say rather than whether you can chew adequately.

Hopefully you get your tooth back if its absence is causing you stress.

edit: I don’t mean to invalidate any of your feelings on the subject. I don’t have any visibly missing teeth, but my mother very prominently did. If anything I said above isn’t accurate, I certainly yield to you, but I hope that something above helps.

I’ve dislocated my shoulder fourteen times; as a result, when I broke my ankle, I just thought it was dislocated as well. I twisted it back into place and tried to stand up on it … Twice … Before my neighbor heard me and gave me the sage advice to stop doing that.

If by “electric candle lighter” you mean one of those “plasma” or arcing ones, they’re awesome, but cannot light anything that won’t fit between the two ends of the arc. I love mine for candles, but have yet to successfully start my charcoal grill with them. I imagine a campfire would suffer similar issues.

I am not qualified to answer this, but I did once see a similar question asked on Reddit. The best response I saw was from a commenter whose name I can’t remember, else I would credit them.

That commenter said that his infant daughter had required an operation on her rectum. The commenter asked the surgeon how the surgery site could possibly not become infected and was told “the asshole knows how to handle shit.”

That answer seemed reasonable to me and I probably will never forget it.

From context, I assume Mobile Device Management, though I’ve never heard it it being used other than by an employer.
