Hand tool woodworking. It’s amazing what you can make without a single electron. Its also amazing to feel the tools, the resistance and subtle vibrations as you use them. Like an extension of your own body. I love chiseling, especially large mortises. Hearing that sharp, deep thud, and seeing it sink in as it bites into the wood is so satisfying. Especially when using metal hammers, they are so responsive.

I love sawing, especially when relaxed and working at a slow pace, seeing all the sawdust fly out with each stroke. Sawing isn’t fun when working on difficult pieces of wood, when working in a relaxed manner with softwood, the hoarse sounds of the saw starts to sound like purring and it begins to cut exceptionally well.

I love the finish of handplanes, so smooth it becomes water resistant.

Overall very spiritual and relaxing (as relaxing as you allow it to be at least)

Also knives and woodworking. Blades are what made the great Japanese temples. Lots of sharp steel and a dream. It is amazing what Japanese blacksmiths can do with steel, and the excellent performance they can achieve with them.

Caffeine never really affected me. I still drink a coffee when I need to focus or stay up but it’s mostly symbolic, to tell my brain “time to wake up”. In the same manner pajamas help you sleep, the mental correlation of wearing pajamas and sleeping helps your brain realize it’s time for bed. If that makes any sense.

I find that imagining stuff like that helps me. If I am ever in a situation similar to what I imagined I can always “rely on protocol” and it works out.

It’s usually pretty simple stuff like what if it gets quiet during a conversation, or exiting one when i don’t want to engage and stuff like that. It’s also sometimes going over what I’d do in a car accident, or if someone suddenly collapsed on the street in front of me.

It’s scary how many games require more time and attention than full time jobs.

Video games. It wasnt for long thankfully but it took all of my time.

When I was the most depressed and the addiction was at its worst I could sink more than 100 hours a week into destiny. I wanted to get to the “good part” of destiny, get the best guns, gear and stay competitive in PvP (its very meta heavy). After hundreds and hundreds of hours and sun setting, I realized I was still at square fucking one. Sun setting made many old weapons “unusable”, to keep it brief, and I had grown sentimental for my favorite guns and the memories I made with them.

On top of that, the power level resets, increases further with every season and becomes exponentially harder to increase near the cap (which you need to experience end game content). Destiny is the definition of Sisyphean. Sunk 700 hours and got nowhere, not in real life or even the game.

I also played other games like Minecraft, terraria, don’t starve and oxygen not included and whilst I harbor much more respect for them, I still despise their grind and slow progression.

I sunk like 168 hours into a terraria master death calamity run with friends and we only got 2/3 through until I quit and it disbanded.

What was the nail in the coffin for me was getting meaningful and useful hobbies. I was always under the assumption that skills were excruciatingly hard to learn and master. The whole “it takes 10 years and 20,000 hours to master something”.

Once I started participating in some I realized you can learn as fast as you want, if you’re passionate enough. I’m no master but I’ve gotten good at computer repair, soldering, cooking and woodworking.

If you’re dedicated you can pound out a piece of furniture, in a day, with hand tools. You can cook lots of delicious food in an hour It could take DAYS to get a single weapon I wanted in destiny. .

I learned these skills in just a few years after kicking my habit. Now I’m going to start a business soon and begin teaching others. I still love the occasional game, but not the kind with hour long side quests of traveling to fetch some random shit. They’re old, fast paced shooters that will leave you satisfied after a quick session.

Life is interesting, you just have to find it.

How do you realize after quitting multiple times?

It must have been crushing to shut down your baby that you’ve nurtured for many years, and has nurtured you. I’ve known a lot of older folks with dying business, trying desperately to keep them afloat until they physically cannot anymore.

I think another contributing factor is the hit to your pride. Going from accomplished ceo, back down to a lowly employee. Having to admit that you’ve “fallen down the corporate ladder”.

I’ve been thinking about it a lot. I’m beginning a business very young and don’t plan to keep it going forever. It’s mostly a hobby, and while it’d be nice to be set for life, it ultimately wouldn’t provide enough for the way I’d want to live (starting family and living in a decent home).

On another hand, ADHD has been a blessing since I have many other skills from previous hyper fixations that could land me a decent job.

Squeezing the maximum amount of productivity from every worker will cause a population crisis, forcing everyone into cities will cause a population crisis, dirt poor wages and sky high rent will cause a population crisis.

Eventually the economy crashes but it gives the country a bit of breathing room. They can finally enact some changes and stimulus to rejuvenate it.

We will still need to wait and see the effects of advanced ai however.

Fear is an extremely motivating force, and without the threat of a “hell” for disobeying/ hurting society, it wouldn’t motivate people to cooperate. Additionally without the allure of heaven, it wouldn’t motivate people to work harder, together.

Without instruments of science, the world is would be a complete mystery. Religion existed to give it history and meaning, to give people a place and meaning in life. Today I think it is obsolete to an extent, as science has taken the latter role (understanding), and one should not need to be threatened with eternal damnation to stop being malicious. Today religion is now more frequently used for means of brainwash and control rather than betterment of society, which is why I decide not to partake in it.

The seller that scammed me was huku huku japan. Apparently this is a very big problem with Japanese sellers, many of them are simply bots that copy and translate listings from Japanese second hand sites, then direct the shipping address to the eBay customer.

They are terrible because they offer zero transparency and missing items are common. Since it is automated, if there was a mistake in Japan (ie original seller lost the item and refunded the buyer) you don’t get your item, or a refund. Basically dropshipping. It’s sickening that they are given a full refund, but keep the eBay buyers money and shipping fee. In total they stole 70$ from me.

Similar to you, I expected long shipping times. I’m in the US and was buying from Japan. Since the shipping times are so long, I gave the seller a lot of leniency. Especially because tracking only occurs after the item has already left japan. This unknowingly disqualified me from a refund, or any help at all from eBay.

If you are looking for cheap refurbished laptops, I recommend PC Sever and Parts. Ive bought from them before and they have good customer service and generous free warranty (90 days). I work IT and I was satisfied with the refurbishment. There were some covered scratches, but it was clean and thermal paste was changed.

I had a lightly damaged cable internal cable. They offered to pay for return shipping and refund me, but I just asked for replacement cables. They quickly shipped me 2 new ones free of charge and shipping.

I used to use eBay instead but due to a recent incident I feel uncomfortable using it. I bought an item and after there was still no tracking number for a week or two, I contacted the seller. More time passed and they told me to wait again. The next time I just ask for a refund.

They ghost me and I decide to escalate to eBay, they have great protections right? Money back guarantee right? Turns out, if you do not report the item within 30 days of purchasing, you can’t do shit. Ok, I’ll just make a fuss to customer service. EBAY HAS NONE. There is a contact page but it is all automated and won’t apply to my item. Other than that there is no way to contact them. Abosolutely zero. There are no emails, they sometimes have a phone number but it changes and doesn’t even work most of the time. People are even saying yo DM their twitter!

I had a case where an item never arrived from Amazon. I simply contacted their customer service, answered their questions and got a refund within 10 mins.

It feels so shitty that just by trusting the seller for 2 months, I got robbed and there’s nothing I can do. Amazon, you are at least guaranteed to speak to a human and get some help.

And also eBay reviews suck, the seller that scammed me had over 90% positive feedback, tens of thousands sold items, so I assumed they were legit. All of their negative reviews were the same issue I had and they are still on the platform.
